Not Invited

Since we are both retired and our holiday parties with former workers are such a drive in this weather, we are not going to them.  We do not belong to a church and so will not be attending any of those holiday activities.  Since we do not have children in school, we are no longer going to those events.  Our new neighbors used to have a holiday get together but that is no longer done.

Looks like we will just be heading out to our daughter's for the Christmas Eve and Christmas day family activities.

Yes, we could probably throw a get together for the few folks we know here, but my heart is not into that kind of work when the weather outside is frightful and many are traveling.

I don't miss these parties in actuality.  They were nice and the food was nicely caloric and I was a master at the small talk.  But I am calmly happy doing not much these days.

  1. For me and Beloved this Christmas day will be quiet and calm and cosy and consist of togetherness. I am looking forward to it. We are planning a sumptuous meal of very fine ingredients which will be modest and non-calorific and simple to prepare at the same time. There will be music and candles and maybe some poetry (yes, we read poetry and stories to each other), the dog will have a special treat and, if the weather is fine, we will go for a walk.

And we will not for one minute envy the families who are crowded together round a noisy table - some of whom may even end up rowing before the day is out.

All our parties happen before and after Christmas and we will have to attend them, but Christmas is ours.

  3. Yes I also think time with family is the best.

I will have a couple of other get-together ..such as a work party ..but it's home that gives me joy at this time of year. xxx

  4. Parties - I can take'em or leave'em.
My husband and I are invited to a Christmas luncheon tomorrow on a farm, hosted by a gourmet cook. I know it will be fun, but with kids, I still have things that need to be done for them, and trying to fit everything in can be stressful.
I have much improved over the years though, glad to say.
Enjoy the upcoming weeks with whatever pleasures that are available to you. :) I'll bet you will.

  6. I absolutely hated office parties and I hated the fact that they were mandatory. Therefore I must say that I don't miss them at all. Parties and gatherings at Christmas time are for children and if you can be where the children are, then go for it. But to fight the elements to travel out and spend time with other adults is not my thing. Our wedding anniversary is Dec. 23 so we're off to an lovely casino resort hotel for whatever we feel like and we won't have to face treacherous drives at night. All our kids are coming the weekend before. That will make our Christmas:)

  7. I guess I'll be spending the yuletide season quite different from you. I'm going home to spend Christmas and New Year not only with my family but also with friends. The last time I was home for Christmas was in 2007 and I miss the parties at home.

Have a great time with your daughter and her family Tabor! :)

  8. I agree with you, but we find ourselves invited to four parties this season.....all for things we are involved in. I could say no...but last year we did nothing and felt empty. I don't know how this year will go with us at sea, but it will be different. Perhaps less people pleasing. :)

Glad to see you up. Is it running?
