David Simon's Dangerous Ideas

This HBO writer "The Wire" puts succinctly and with great clarity the argument that should reach a much larger audience.  Please take the time to listen to the entire speech.  (Please be aware it includes profanity...in all the correct places.)

  1. Thanks for sharing this... I live in a community where the divide is very apparent. People with money come here for tourism; wine trails, museums, food, etc. Unfortunately some of the folks who live and work here are underpaid in relation to the rents that are charged since space is so valuable. In off seasons, they have hours cut, making it even harder to make ends meet.

  2. An interesting interview. I can't take issue with anything he says. Thanks for sharing this.

  3. I too live in a divided community. I'm embarrassed and saddened by this leap I've made into white bread land. California is becoming Latin at a great rate, and many of us here lived walled away from reality. I moved to this neighborhood for the cheap rent....which is long gone, and I stayed for the weather. Many here in my town cannot afford to move to the coast. Many wouldn't want to be separated from their culture or families and the barrio either. We echo the divisions of the 1800's, and think nothing of it.
